    Job Overview

    The Technical Director is a crucial position in the function of a theatre. Working with the Production Manager and Artistic Director we expect the Technical Director to oversee, advise and execute all aspects of the technical needs of the amphitheatre. A wide range of knowledge in audio, lights, projection and set construction is needed but most important is the ability to problem solve and find alternative solutions.
    This position is demanding and can only be done in person on site. The Grove encourages locals to apply but is willing to work with all applicants to help arrange temporary housing options for the length of the contract.

    Reports to: Production Manager in tandem with our Artistic Director and Executive Director

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversee and execute all technical aspects of the theatre for the summer season, including but not limited to: One night music, comedy and performing arts programming, community events, drama camp and 1 musical and 3 tribute concerts.

    • Be onsite for duration of all shows to support any technical needs including opening and closing the theatre

    • Efficiently lead a crew in a variety of load ins and strikes

    • Communicate with one night performers on their technical needs

    • Up hold the best practice of health and safety standards

    • Working with Production Manager, Designers and Director in the planning, research and development of the set, audio and lighting design needs within budget

    • Obtain technical equipment needed for each performance and Mainstage productions

    • Produces technical paperwork as necessary 

    • Ensure all production elements are delivered on schedule and on budget; and reports to the Production Manager and Artistic Director as to the status of productions technical needs at weekly meetings.

    • Assists in obtaining crew in consultation with Production Manager

    • Consults with Production Manager on logistics as needed

    • Contribute to the ongoing conversation about capital maintenance and development of the amphitheatre, with a particular focus on equipment purchases, efficiencies and general better practices

    • Additional duties may be assigned as required through the growth of the organization.

    • Technical theatre understanding and professional experience 

    • Strong audio knowledge is an asset

    • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively 

    • Someone who is organized, hardworking, and has a vision for art

    • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with a strong attention to detail.

    • Commitment to and experience working with an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework.

    • Knowledge of working outdoors is an asset

    A professional performing arts company located in Fenelon Falls, Ontario, The Grove Theatre is the first artistic venture of its kind in this Kawartha Lakes community.     Working at The Grove Theatre

    The Grove Theatre’s Box Office and Office is in the heart of Fenelon Falls, at  2 Water Street. The amphitheatre is at 27 Veterans Way and is outdoors.


    Though certain work can be done from home, this is an in person position, as well, we think it’s important to maintain a certain amount of hours a week in the office together as we find it more conducive to collaboration. When our activities ramp up, we also find it important for the whole team to be in person together for the work that we do. 

    During productions our days will be split between a variety of locations and spread between daytime, evening, weekday and weekends. It can be frenetic but together we will set ourselves up for a marathon and not a sprint. We aim to make space for people to be more than just their jobs. We want to share things we care about and we notice in our communities. We can’t be task oriented all the time and we think it’s important to include the time to reflect and connect.

We celebrate diversity in arts and people, and are working to prioritize inclusive and accessible processes and experiences.     Job Overview

    This is a position for someone that is interested and excited about being a key role in a new and growing theatre. There is a lot of opportunity to learn and collaborate in this company. We are looking for someone who enjoys taking on challenges and being a productive and positive team member.

    The Theatre and Facilities Technician is responsible for assisting in: all technical setups, sound and lighting checks, the running and operation of light and sound functions, including load in, change over and strike, for all productions, performances, events, and activities taking place at the amphitheatre and adjacent work spaces such as the rehearsal hall or off site events. They are to take directions from the Head of Sound and Technical Director in all elements of technical needs and the affected areas.
    This position will also be a part of the facilities overall function performing tasks to assure that the space is running at its best performance level and efficiently. Including but not limited to creating organization systems, light carpenter work and some grounds maintenance.


    Reports to: Head of Sound, Technical Director, Production and Facilities Manager

    Responsibilities:

    • Participate in creating the best technical package for the seasons needs

    • Assist in sourcing addition technical equipment 

    • Take directions from Head of Sound, Technical Director and Production Manager

    • Assist in top of season load in and end of season strike including but not limited to laying and connecting cable, labeling, creating efficient cable pathways etc.

    • Maintain audio and lighting equipment diligently and use best practices to avoid damages

    • Assist in creating sound script for live musical performances and tributes

    • Helping guest artists load in, set up and sound check.

    • Learn audio track to cover Head of Sound if needed

    • Facilities needs including: light carpentry like securing shelves, creating and building organization systems, painting as needed, etc.

    • Keep facility organized and tidy throughout the season

    • Assist in other production problem solving as needed

    What we’re looking for:

    • Technical experience or training 

    • Comfortable using hand and power tools

    • Comfortable working in an outdoor environment

    • G License

    • Comfortable driving, comfortable driving large vehicles is an asset

    • Excellent knowledge of musical theatre and outdoor performance spaces

    • Excellent sense of teamwork 

    • Excellent verbal communications skills with a strong attention to detail.

    Job Overview

    As a vital member of The Grove Theatre’s small but growing team, the Events Assistant will be involved in supporting and executing The Grove Theatre’s productions and events. The Events Assistant will ensure that the amphitheatre grounds are tidy, and equipment (chairs, tables, etc) are set up prior to each production and event at the amphitheatre. The Events Assistant will also communicate with various departments to ensure successful operation of the amphitheatre, and assist with the execution of off-site and pre or post show events.

    Reports to: Patron Experience Manager

    Responsibilities:

    • Prepare the amphitheatre for events and ensure regular maintenance.

    • Assist with event set up, running, and tear down.

    • Maintain a clean and pleasant environment on site before and during events.

    • Assist with regular upkeep of the Fairgrounds property.

    • Additional duties may be assigned as required through the growth of the organization.

    What we’re looking for:

    • Collaborative, creative and strategic thinking individual.

    • Experience with landscaping equipment (lawn mower, edge trimmer, sprinklers) is an asset.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a strong attention to detail.

    • Strong project management and time management skills.

    • Valid Driver’s License and access to a vehicle is required.

    Job Overview

    This position offers an opportunity for a strong communicator to join a rapidly growing organization where you can spend your summer outdoors enjoying live entertainment under the stars. With a small but growing team, new staff will play an important role in laying the foundation for our expanding theatre.

    The Production Assistant will work hand in hand with the Production Manager and Technical Director to create and produce amazing performances at The Grove Theatre. This role is a great opportunity for anyone looking to learn more about the production elements in the theatre and live entertainment sector. A willingness to be hands-on during rehearsals and performances, assist in areas that need help and eagerness to work as a team to ensure the productions run smoothly, is key.

    The Grove will be producing 1 musical and 4 tribute concert shows in rep this season, sharing cast and company as well a number of one night variety shows. The Production Assistant will be working on all shows under the guidance of the Production Manager.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assisting Production Manager in all areas of production.

    • Assisting Master Carpenters as needed with the setup of stage props and set pieces.

    • Assisting Technical Director with lighting and sound needs.

    • Assisting Costume Designer with costume maintenance and repairs if needed.

    • Assisting with general tasks within the theatre as seen fit.

    • Work with all production staff, designers, actors, and managers to produce an amazing show.

    • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment throughout the theatre and rehearsal spaces.

    • Ensure all rehearsal materials are available when needed.

    • Additional duties may be assigned as required through the growth of the organization.
